Wine Tours in Argentina

Wine tours in Argentina offer a wine enthusiast a myriad of options. This is a huge and beautiful country, from the semi-desert, high-altitude North to wild and windy Patagonia in the South. You can join regions together with flights, or you can join Salta and Mendoza with our road trip. And don’t forget Buenos Aires!

The Three Main Regional Options:

The North – Salta: These are the highest wineries and vineyards in the world, with spectacular scenery and superb Torrontes and Malbec. Base yourself in Cafayate for the greatest concentration of wineries in the area. Then check out the highest wineries in the world in the Humahuaca Canyon.

Cafayate = 2 days minimum, optimum length of visit 3 days | Humahuaca Canyon = optimum length of visit 3 days.

The Middle – Mendoza: An absolute Mecca of Malbec and the cradle of quality Argentine wine. Mendoza is the true powerhouse of wine production and innovation. Make sure to spend a day or more in each of the main sub-regions: Valle de Uco – Lujan de Cuyo – Maipu

The Far South – Patagonia: Extreme terroir for Pinot Noir and Merlot. (and Dinosaurs!). Pushing the boundaries of where wine can be produced. This is a more challenging visit logistically but more than rewarded by the superb visits on offer in Rio Negro and San Patricio del Chañar.

The reputation of wine from Argentina is growing on the world stage and with good reason (Michel Rolland had plenty of influence here!). This huge country is home to the highest vineyards in the world and the most Southerly ones too (although watch out for Chile).

Depending on the time you have available, we can take you from the extreme North down through Mendoza and to Patagonia to experience the range of wines and terroir that this fantastic country has to offer. We also offer a road trip from Salta to Mendoza to get to know Tucuman, Catamarca, La Rioja, and San Juan.

From North to South, there are so many wine-touring options in Argentina. Map by Wine Folly.

Mendoza has the greatest concentration of wineries and quite rightly is the focus for many visitors. But we feel that Cafayate and Humahuaca are even more interesting, and these two regions are extremely beautiful. The Salta – Cachi – Molinos – Cafayate – Salta loop is particularly spectacular, taken over 3 or 4 days. While you are down here why not combine Argentina and Chile in our classic cross-Andes blend?

We are experts on these regions and are here to advise you, so just email us to get your wine adventure started.
